A Tailored Approach To Mathematics
Finding a true competency-based mathematics program isn’t easy—they’re incredibly rare. In fact, we’ve only found three in the entire English-speaking world!
Now, imagine a program that doesn’t rely on your child’s age or grade level to determine what they learn. Instead, it focuses on their unique competency level—helping them master the skills they need right now while identifying and filling in any gaps from past learning.
Traditional math programs often assume that all Year 6 students should learn the same material at the same time. But what if your child is still missing key building blocks from earlier years? Gaps like these can create frustration, hinder understanding, and even lead to a dislike of maths altogether.
A competency-based program is different. It’s designed to meet your child where they are, build on their current skills, and prepare them for what’s next—without skipping a beat. The result? A confident, capable, and thriving young mathematician.
We've been exploring and testing a program that truly works at providing competency based mathematics instruction.
Let’s bridge those gaps and set them up for maths success!

I have spent the past six or so months immersed in the Maths Pathway platform, attending informative workshops, speaking to parents that use this program with their children and interviewing one of the co-founders.
After learning how this program is structured and why, I began to see just how valuable it could be for our family and so we dived in head first.
In full transparency my teen wasn't overly interested in yet another new mathematics program but he agreed to jump in and give it a go.
Following is a running account of our experience and I will continue to add this as time moves forward.
Getting Started With Maths Pathway
The program begins with a comprehensive diagnostic assessment designed to pinpoint the child's precise strengths and weaknesses in mathematics. This assessment meticulously identifies areas of mastery and areas requiring further instruction.
This level of individualised assessment certainly surpasses any other program we've encountered in our 18 years of homeschooling. Before my child even begins the first lesson, Maths Pathway understands their unique needs, identifying and addressing specific knowledge gaps.
Some of the gaps identified were quite surprising to us. Despite years of consistent mathematical education using a diverse range of materials, from workbooks and manipulatives to dedicated programs and tutoring, we discovered several areas where our child's understanding was incomplete.
Instead of viewing this as a reflection of past shortcomings, we embraced the opportunity to finally gain a clear and comprehensive picture of our child's mathematical understanding.
The extent of the diagnostic assessment varies depending on the child's age. For our teen, we opted for the most thorough assessment to gain the deepest possible insights.
While this initial assessment may seem extensive, it's not necessary to complete it in a single session. The program saves the child's progress, allowing them to resume the assessment at any time.
Based on the assessment results, Maths Pathway generates a truly personalised learning path, tailored specifically to the child's individual needs and learning style.
